Devathas and Asuras started churning Kseerabhdhi(Milk ocean) with the help of manthara parvatha and Vasuki Snake in the desire to obtain Amrutham.During this proces the first thing that came out of it was kalakoota Visham.Every one didnot have any clue of what to do and they approached Vishnu.vishnu took this Poison to lord shiva and asked him if he could swallow this.Shiva looked at Parvathi and asked if he shall do this.Parvathi said ok to this since she is aware of the power of her husband. Then Shiva converted all this poison into a small piece and put it in his mouth immediately devathas asked him not to swallow it since the poison is very powerful and it will have a huge impact on him then Lord Shiva decided to spit it out and he was asked not to do that since the power of the poison would destroy the whole world.so lord shiva had to stop the poison at his throat and during the process he got dizziness and took rest on the lap of his wife. Godess Parvathi holds his throat not to allow poison to flow further.Once Lord Shiva felt dizzy all the gods assemble and start praying for the faster recovery of lord shiva.Lord Shiva recovers and gives a go ahead to resume the churning and finally Amrutha is obtained. All the gods come to lord shiva and pray him since he was responsible for this achivement and without him this could not have been accomplished.Lord shiva becomes happy and starts dancing with happiness and this period is considered to be pradosham which we observe every fortnight and is considered to remove our sins.
